Just out of curiosity, I wonder how difficult (not being familiar with the STFLE code in Hercules) it would be to have a different OSTAILOR option that told the STFLE instruction 'hey, this is z/vm', and thus amended the response proffered by Hercules so this kind of customized trace and remediation procedure per Z/VM version would be rendered moot.
