The problem here is that you restricted your analysis to the economic aspect:

Cooperative: everyone contributes an equal amount.
Commune: everyone contributes everything he has.

Usually Cooperatives tend to be more economic in nature, therefore the 
members are only interested in the economic aspect.
With communes things tend to be very different though. In a commune the 
economics are only one small part. The whole point of the commune is to 
share their lives. This includes the economies, but also much more, like 
personal involvement, taking care of each other, having fun together, etc...
In this sense Wine is more like a commune(read also Alexandres comparison 
of WINE to a party).

People in a commune are not that interested in economics, because for them 
economics is just a necessary thing to maintain survival, the real value is 
in the sharing and living. In the case of Wine it would be having fun 
coding and to see the project evolving...

And obviously many in the Wine community think that the LGPL preserves the 
community better than the X11 license...
