[AVFS] avfs on Linux 2.6

Now that there is a new version of avfs, I would like
to try it again.

I am running linux 2.6.12 and it seems that the only
way of installing avfs is the library. That would prevent
general access to the virtual files through /overlay.

Is there any way of enabling /overlay access? avfscoda?
fuse?
