Gee, you want to "secretly" hide my "dotted" Windows files from me just 
because you want Windows to "operate" like UNIX?  Ew.

Stop trying to make Windows work like UNIX.  If you do, you might as well 
adjust with the hidden attribute auto-magically.  Putting dots in front of 
files is not the "correct" way to hide files under Windows.  I'm sorry UNIX 
has no "hidden" attribute...so they had to come up with a "kludge".

If the "foo" or ".foo" already exists then do nothing.  The user has 
already shot themselves in the foot.
