Hi all,
I'm thinking about sending the following in as a paper proposal for
Ottawa Linux Symposium. I'd welcome your comments:
Inter-Node Distributed Locking, Shared Applications, and Shared
Filesystems:
OpenDLM, SAF Locking, and OpenGFS Working Together for Your Cluster
OpenDLM is a truly Distributed inter-node Lock Manager. We'll describe
how
OpenDLM distributes lock management, storage, and recovery among the
nodes
of a cluster, eliminating any Single Points of Failure (SPOFs).
We'll also describe two uses of OpenDLM:
1) OpenGFS shared filesystem can now use OpenDLM, replacing OpenGFS'
legacy
memexp lock protocol that has a SPOF in its lock storage. We'll
describe
the locking (and cluster management) architecture of OpenGFS,
including:
a). the "g-lock" (global lock) layer,
b). g-lock's available plug-in lock protocols (e.g. OpenDLM),
c). a genericized version of g-lock, which is useful for any sort
of
inter-node locking (even non-filesystem).
2) Service Availability Forum (SAF) locking interface implementation
for using
OpenDLM for user-space applications.
