The install-mac contains the old instructions, for the Python version...
(The link text says: "There is also an older pure Python version.")

It also contains some obsolete instructions, for the old packaging
systems such as MacPorts or Fink... Or how to build gtk+ yourself.

But maybe your "cask" just missed to install the gtk+ dependency ?

You can live without it, but then you only get the CLI and no GUI.

This sounds wrong, first Zero Install is not allowed in main repo
because it contains Python modules or OCaml modules. But then it is
allowed to use our binary installer, and wrap it with homebrew ?
It also wrong about the license, it is LGPL (Lesser) and not GPL:

Sorry, but don't get the warm fuzzy feeling about Homebrew for
distributing the installation. There's a lot of nitpicking over
details, and then in the end it gets rejected due to requiring
dependencies. Might as well use OPAM, and only brew for gtk+ ?

I think time with OS X is better spent making a native GUI...


But the homebrew instructions can probably be fixed too,
if you say what the brew problem was that you encountered.

Not that I've tried it in a while, but it *used* to work ?
Like Thomas said, we can easily update the homepage in git.
