I posted an entry on the Moneydance blog regarding Apple's announcement regarding Java: http://moneydance.com/blog/archives/279 It's hard to say what the future of Java on Mac might be, but Moneydance does have a future (on the Mac and elsewhere) regardless. It would be nice if Apple would be a bit more clear about Java on Lion and on the mac app store. For example, they say that apps depending upon "deprecated technologies" such as Java are not allowed on the app store, but if an app is bundled with it's own JVM is it ok? I think a recent tweet from Tim Bray (of Google, formerly of Sun, inventor of XML) is worth reading: "Unclench, everyone. There are millions of Java devs, all their tools are in Java, they like Macs, one way or another it'll be there." In any case, isn't there a better way to make this transition than deprecating Java? I also wonder how much work Oracle can or will put into integrating Java into OS X. I'd much rather have "integrated" than "current" at this point in Java's lifecycle.
