I'm running under Windows Vista x64, autosave 2 minutes, daily 
backup. I see no pauses. The only obvious difference from your setup 
is that I don't have encryption turned on. I have no idea whether 
that could make a difference.

You might try leaving Windows Task Manager open and visible, and see 
if you can tell whether MD (or anything else) is hogging the CPU 
during these pauses.
