My problem was that spaces spaces are required between each set of four alphanumeric characters in the 4 x 4 matrix of the access key. When I tried that, I left the spaces out and, of course, it was rejected. I think it might eliminate confusion if the access key screen which opens when first launching Moneydance Mobile on the iPhone was labelled as "Access key".
