Or if you generally like the "auto-create new transactions" feature 
(personally I couldn't live without it), then just Enter Esc. In 
other words, let it create the new transaction and then Escape to cancel it.

The word "create" in the feature name is a bit misleading, since it 
does not actually create the new transaction, just the form for 
entering it -- the transaction is created on Enter.
