And you really don't even have to hit ESC to get rid of the new transaction entry.  Just my clicking on anything outside the new transaction entry, like an existing transaction, or another account, which is probably what you would be doing anyway, the new transaction entry goes away.

I like it too because if you need to enter another transaction in the same account, you are ready to go.  And if not, what ever you want to do next will most likely get rid of the new transaction entry screen anyway.

Or if you generally like the "auto-create new transactions" feature (personally I couldn't live without it), then just Enter Esc. In other words, let it create the new transaction and then Escape to cancel it.

The word "create" in the feature name is a bit misleading, since it does not actually create the new transaction, just the form for entering it -- the transaction is created on Enter.
