I figured out that I miss-diagnosed the problem. The data was not
trashed because the copy I used for a few weeks was unregistered. In
fact, the data is not trashed at all, it was just not being read
correctly by the latest version of MD.

The problem was that the version I installed on the new computer, MD
791, has a bug that causes it to not compute reports correctly. (In the
Transaction reports, entries are listed as credits or debits in an
apparently random fashion.)

I moved the data file back to my old computer, and it work correctly. I
then uninstalled MD 791 from my new computer, and installed the version
that was on the old computer, which was MD 757. That fixed everything.

Is there a known issue with MD 791? The new computer is Windows 7
64-bit, while the old computer is Windows XP, 32-bit, in case that matters.
