MD 2012: Features Lost, Needed or Irrelevant (to me, anyway)

To Sean,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to say this, but it's where I've been
connecting with MD people since "the old days".

I recently upgraded from MD 2009(8?) to MD 2012.
Certainly there are many subtle but appreciated improvements in MDs
functionality and the versatility of its features.

However, I currently have three issues with MD, as it now exists:

1) I really miss the icons at the top of the page, especially the one
that quickly took me back to the home page. I work from the Home Page
and find having to drop down a menu to select it to be very cumbersome.
Not having the icons is especially a problem for my not computer savvy
wife. Because she now finds MD less convenient to use, I have to spend
more time "supporting" her use of MD!

2) This is an old gripe, but one that either was lost or ignored:
Only having 28 or so characters available to display account names in
the main drop down menu is a severe shortcoming. Nearly all of my
account names are significantly longer than 28 characters, for claritys'
sake. There is more than enough room on the bar itself to display an
entire account name. Why is the drop down menu so restricted? PLEASE
make it longer, or, better yet, make the displayed string length for
that menu a Settings parameter.

3) So far I find the Side Bar to be totally useless. Perhaps if it was
significantly more configurable it would have some utility. I played
with it for a while and turned it off. lease don't clutter MD with
redundant/nonfunctional lookey-loo features. Part of MDs appeal has
always been the cleanliness of its interface and ease of navigation.
