There are plenty of us still here. Just realize that you are mainly 
addressing other users, though I think Sean still reads. No other MD 
support staff read this AFAIK, and if you want to enter an official 
comment, you need to use the web support site.

A lot of your complaints about the sidebar were widely aired when it was 
introduced. I think these discussions should be in the mailing list archive.

Clicking "home" at the top of the sidebar takes you to the home page. So 
does the keyboard shortcut ctrl/cmd-shift-H. The first should be good 
for your wife, the second for you.

You can adjust the width of the sidebar. I created an account with a 
very long name to see how the sidebar handled it, and when I made the 
sidebar wide enough, it displayed the entire name. This seems to address 
your problem with long names -- if you want long account names enough to 
allocate some screen space to them, you can see the full names.

As Dave mentioned, most people who use the sidebar for a while and 
customize it decide they like. True, you might be one of those who never 
likes it -- you'll be in a small minority in that case, but not lonely. 
Still, I strongly recommend that you use it for a while and find out 
what you can do with it.

Dave mentions the location of the "new transaction" button. I never even 
notice since I always do ctrl-N. However, I remember that this has come 
up before, and there's probably a thread about it on the official 
support forum. If you are one of those who really prefers to use the 
mouse for this function -- you're not alone -- you should add your voice 
there. ISTR that Sean was amenable to the idea of relocating the button.
