Script to extract (all kinds of) metadata from fonts (of any type)

I frequently encounter the mini-task to find out some "meta" information
about a font. However, I do not know any commandline tool which is able to
do that. The most important info I'm interested in:

   - the license it uses
   - the font embedding permission settings
   - the number of glyphs it contains
   - ...and some more (but not so important at this time)

I'm familiar with some other commandline tools: ttfdump, otfdump, otfinfo,
otflist. However, these tools do not provide an easy way to extract the
info I'm interested in.

Therefore I thought it might be a good idea to use a FontForge-based script
to do that. Ideally, the script would work the same for all font types
which FontForge can handle.

However, since I'm not familiar (yet) with Python, nor with the detailed
innards of the different font formats, I do not know where and how to start.

Is anybody here on this mailing list who'd be interested and capbable to
start a little project like this? Preferably on Github?
