Help with script to retrieve metadata info about fonts

I often miss a commandline tool which can quickly show some interesting
metadata about a font (whatever type it is).

Some of the items I'd like to get revealed are:

license the font is using
font embedding permissions
number of glyphs in a font
...and many more (but not so important at this time)

I'm familiar with some existing commandline tools: ttfdump, otfdump,
otfinfo, otflist
