So I was just pouring over the fresh new calendar, and noticed that the
application period for GSoC mentoring organizations will open on February 9
and close on February 20.

(See here: https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/events/google/gsoc2015 )

Who's interested in having FontForge participate this year?

As the rules spell it out (
https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2015/help_page#1._How_does_a_mentoring_organization
), the "mentoring organization" has to do a few things to demonstrate that
it's a real, active FOSS project, but they're not too arduous.

But the organization does need some people to commit to being a
point-of-contact and to being the mentors for any students that get
accepted. And the project is responsible for coming up with a list of
potential summer-project ideas that a student could work on. Students
definitely can propose their own, but projects that have no ideas seem to
not attract much in the way of interest ... which is understandable.

We definitely meet all the requirements to participate (it doesn't require,
for example, being a registered legal entity or anything like that). The
question is - is there someone who is interested in working with a student
as a "mentor"? And, just as importantly - can we come up with some ideas
that would make for relatively self-contained, 3-ish month coding
projects?

I mean, at least we don't have a shortage of feature requests, so there's
that....
