missing shortcut keys

All, I am missing nearly ALL keyboard shortcuts from the GUI, which really slows me down at times. I tried to find a solution to this in the archives and elsewhere on the web, knowing that I'm almost never the first person to encounter issues like this, but I found nothing that helped. Is there a file that is possibly missing? I'm using the 27-Nov-2014 version (using PPA) on Ubuntu 14.10. Any help would be most welcome!
