what do you use for replacing all (or parts) of XFree86-clients?

Hello xlibs users,

What do you use for replacing all (or parts) of XFree86-clients?

I am trying to build XFree86 client programs and related files from
xc/programs directory.

bdftopcf couldn't install because of missing libfntstubs.a. What provides
libfntstubs.a? (Is that part of any xlibs?)

Is there any project to separate the individual components of xc/programs/
?
