It turns out advancemame is my daddy, as I am
completely unable to get
it in linux.

I am running gentoo with 2.6.8, without X. I have a
geforce2 mx 400 and a 27" toshiba TV NTSC using
s-video. At first I tried getting it to work with
svgalib, but svgalib wasn't so inclined. I edited
/etc/vga/libvga.config and added:
HorizSync 15.5 16
VertRefresh 60 60
I actually tried a number of combinations, none of
which worked. I am not sure if I am supposed to enter
anything else to get svgalib to work with a tv
monitor. After putting in device_video_clock
5-50/15.6-16/60 in advmame.rc. Now advcfg would start
but everytime I tried to run it after choosing my
three options it would say that Calibration mode is
unsupported...then the log says doesn't support
interlaced mode and vsync time not measured and no
'device_video_format'. I tried mplayer in svga and
the syncs are all whacked out for it. So I put a
modeline in libvga.config based on 320x240 (I think)
from advv, and that locked up my computer with a black
screen in mplayer. So I am obviously doing something
wrong with svgalib so I try framebuffer. Vesafb-tng
displays my console great on the tv "600x480@60" and I
can watch movies in mplayer with -vo directfb, but
when I try to run advcfg it complains about vesafb,
so I tried rivafb. But I can't get it to display as
anything but a black screen or out of whack text. so
I made a mode in fb.mode based on the vesafb timings
and tried to load it while running rivafb, that didn't
change the screen situation, so I tried to blindly run
advcfg and in the log it listed a timing for 320x200
tried that and that didn't work. So I gave up and
tried messing with advv but everytime I hit enter on a
mode that falls with in my clock ranges and is not
interlaced the screen goes black and sometimes locks
up sometimees doesn't so either I have to restart or
switch vcs and kill the process. Maybe I am just not
enter some data, but I have spent two days searching
google, gentoo forums, byoac, advmame docs, and the
mailing list to no avail, try so many suggestions that
I have lost count. The frustrating part for me is it
seems I am running a pretty standard setup, TV with an
nVidia card. Any help, and I mean any, would be
greatly appreciated.

Patrick

PS throughtout all this pacman nor 19** nor 1943
worked. All gave black locked up screen, an error, or
the whacky text.
