advv blank screen

Hi. When I run the advv utility all I get is a black screen. I have entered the clocks for my PAL TV in advmame.rc. I know my monitor is supposed to go out-of-sync (and thereby black) because it cannot handle the clocks, but it doesn't go out-of-sync, just black. I've tried switching over to my TV but that's black too. When i press escape and SHIFT+PAGEUP to see previoues text, i can see that advv has been running. Could this be a problem with a text-driver? What can be done to solve it? Also, can AdvanceCD be set up to a PAL TV and run roms on the HD? Thanx for any support.
