Bryan,

Here's my normal methodology for upgrading to the newest versions of
AdvanceMAME and AdvanceMENU. Now keep in mind I like to err on the
cautious side. I've had strange problems in the past arise from
misconfigured RC files or incompatibility issues. So that aside, here's
my lengthy process for upgrading my builds.

First thing I do is I look over the history notes between the build I'm
currently running and the new build I'm upgrading to to see if there are
any new options or changes in configuration. Then I unzip the new build
into a separate folder and run the executable once to create a bare
config. Then I'll open up the old and new RC files side by side just to
make sure I've got everything in a row...that way it's easy to point out
if options are added or taken out from the old version. Next I just
start copying/pasting the configuration from the old to the new.

If done properly it always fires up right away first time. Granted I
always take my time and usually this upgrade takes me a good 15-30
minutes just to make sure I do it properly. Because of that I normally
only update the Advance programs every 5 builds or so. Or unless a new
game is supported that I really want to play. Again, I do this very
cautiously due to having run into very strange glitches after upgrades.

Hope that helps.

Mike

-----Original Message-----

I have decided to update my mame cabinet to the latest software today
both advmame and advmenu.

Just wondering how I should go about updating to the new .rc without
loosing all my previous configurations. right now I have AdvMenu 2.3.7 &
AdvMAME 0.84

Thanks!

Bryan Mosley
