4 tiny screens in advcfg?

(I apologize for cross posting from the forum, but I haven't seen any results on the forum). I'm trying to get Advmenu and Advmame going on my standard arcade monitor (as everyone is probably painfully aware at this point). I previously had this all set up with 0.72 on a Cirrus Logic card and FreeDOS. That setup worked well but I wanted something that could run more games, so I built a new machine. Same cabinet with new hardware (Radeon 9250) running linux framebuffer. In both cases, I'm using a JPac. When I run advcfg and enter the information for a standard arcade monitor, following the steps on the EasyMameCab I can't seem to get a mode that actually works. It starts out as garbage in the middle of the screen. If I press Shift-i 11 times I will consistently get a screen with 4 tiny copies of the advcfg screen in each corner. That's it. That is the best I can do. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something wrong with using this video card or is there something wrong with the monitor? Please help before I pull the small amount of remaining hair out.
