Re: AdvMenu on Linux Boot

Here is an alternate approach that doesn't involve X:

1. In /etc/inittab, change the runlevel to 3, so X does not start on boot.

2. Also in /etc/inittab, add --autologin <user> to the first mingetty
line, to have the user <user> login on bootup.

3. Add/modify that user's ~/.bashrc file to start advmenu on login.  If
you can get fancy, you can only start advmenu if the user is logged into
psuedotty 1, so that user can login to other consoles without starting
advmenu.

This has the advantage of avoiding the weight of X on the system, and is
probably faster.
