text scrolling in 4.x

Hi, I have been using Lyntin 3.3.1 for a while now and have been very
pleased with it. I have recently tried using a couple of the new 4.x
releases and was really happy with the changes. However, one thing
stops me from being able to use 4.x. I run Lyntin in an xterm (aterm
to be specific) and for some reason the text seems to scroll in a
slower, more consistant speed when using 4.x. In the older version of
Lyntin text scrolls in bursts, seemingly more in "real time". I play a
PK mud with a colored ASCII world map, so the old 3.3.1 behavior of
text coming in bursts makes moving around on the map much nicer than
the blur of constantly moving text that 4.x gives me.

My TERM is "vt100" but I have tried "xterm" with no change. I normally
run it in screen, but I have tried without... Any suggestions on how
to fix this?

I'm running gentoo on a 650mhz athlon and python 2.3.3.

Thanks much.
