Looks like you run it with "textui", that is, text user 
interface module. The textui is kind of "reference 
implementation", and it seems that nobody is going to make 
it any faster. Did you try the cursesui, the new curses 
user interface module?

Looks fast enough.

If you ran the cursesui and it is not good enough, then 
tell me about the MUD you play. I'll try to do something.
