Cornered! Advice?

I'm towards the end of a game and I've found myself in a tight spot.
There's only one CPU player left (IQ 120, IIRC), and he's beaten me
back to a single planet. 

I'm holding him off with my 9/9 Dreadnaught, but he's coming at me
with occasional batches of 14/14 fighters, and I might not last much
longer. I think he's low on metal, because he's only sending about 5
at a time, and they're few and far between. 

I've got a huge stockpile (over 40,000 metal), but my cash is low,
cash flow is slow with only one planet, and he's got the tech
advantage (and his lead is constantly growing since he's got more income).

I wind up in a spot like this more often than I care to admit. Is
there a way out?
