Merging from a GEDCOM file

As I slowly discover other family members with their own trees, often done in My Heritage or Ancestry or whatever, I need to find out the best way to merge a fragment of their tree (eg "descendants of X,Y exported as a GEDCOM file") with mine. Are there configurable packages to do this, or is it better to retype or copy and paste?
