If you've not tried it before, I suggest making a copy of your tree, importing the GEDCOM into that and making the necessary family connections. If all goes well, you can do it again on the real tree or, and this is much easier, start using the copy as the real tree. Maybe after suitably renaming it of course. Even after a 'clean' import, there's bound to be work to do - consolidating sources, places, and what-not. Ultimately, it's up to you. If it were only a couple of people, I'd be tempted to add them manually. More than a handful, and an import starts to look attractive. Each method has its pro's and con's.
