Re: Ancestor Tree PDF failing to generate

I had missed the "subtle" difference between the addon 
"Reports>Trees>Ancestor Tree" etc [which I do NOT have installed], and 
the inbuilt "Reports>Graphical Reports>Ancestor Tree" etc [which 
definitely work for me].

I see Matt has now identified a possible issue with dependencies before 
the addon works correctly.

If your preference is PDF rather than LaTex native format, you might 
consider whether the addon Reports>Trees options really meet your needs 
better than the inbuilt Reports>Graphical Reports ones, although I can 
see some potentially interesting design and layout differences between 
the third-party addon and the inbuilt.

I generally output to SVG, where I can tweak fonts, point-sizes, stroke 
colours & widths, fills etc before generating PDF.

If you are actually generating a PDF file already, the problem might 
simply be that [until at least the texlive-pictures package is installed 
on your system] the file is actually LaTex output, but with a PDF file 
extension.
