OK, I asked, because I'm longing more and more for HTML in notes, so

I can understand that, but in practical situations, the amount of images 
can grow so large, that the size of the backup will be multiple GB's. 
And that's why, like Dave, I copy those to an external drive, and to the 
cloud. And to make things manageable, they're all in sub folders of 
/home/enno/Documents/archive, which is my base folder for media, on Linux.

I use FreeFileSync to keep all documents in sync with my external drive, 
and have MEGAsync for cloud storage, and also OneDrive, when I work in 
Windows.

I understand, and that's why I have that external drive, and cloud storage.

And that's why I like to have that HTML in notes, although one could 
also think of EverNote, or something like that.

I know what a restore does, and it's a mess. It will create a new folder 
with the name of your backup file, and put all the restored images in 
that, which means that you end up with very long paths. And for me, 
that's a real waste of time and space, because backups to the cloud and 
the external drive are way easier, and less risky.
