Re: Setting up names that change with time

One entry users often forget is to set the date information for the main
Name entry. There is a Place Name Editor icon at the end of the field and
before the Type field.

So for Hobart I have:

Main entry: Hobart after 21 Aug 1842
Alternative 1: Hobart Town from 1803 to 21 Aug 1842
Alternative 2: Hobart with no date information

For Tasmania I have:

Maine entry: Tasmania after 1 Jan 1901
Alternate 1: Colony of Tasmania from 1855 to 1 Jan 1901
Alternate 2: Van Diemen's Land from 1788 to 1855
Alternate 3: Tasmania with no date information.

FYI: I got my information from Wikipedia

Note: I usually add that last Alternative entry with no dates to handle an
event with no date. In those instances, Gramps will use the name option
using the earliest possible date. Think what name will display on January
1, year 1. So I add that last entry as a fallback option.
