My understanding is that both Ancestry & FamilySearch require executing a license agreement contract to use their API.  And that using their API is a requirement for the bi-directionality requirement of syncing. Since Gramps is not a legal entity, the project cannot execute those kinds of agreements.

We could make a data scraper without any agreement but those are likely to be banned as a "bot" by their site security. And it couldn't push data back unless the user signed in and violated THEIR user agreements.

The project can (and does) have tools that read & write various file formats. So data transfer is possible.

If an individual wants to execute one of those agreement and write their own Sync add-on, the Gramps API is public and they are welcome to do so.

I'm not sure if OUR license agreement would require that such a third-party add-on module be open source if the person decides to distribute.

Could clarification please be posted, to confirm or refute whether
GRAMPS "will sync with Ancestry and other online databases.", such as
MyHeritage?

Thank you in anticipation.
