I use exactly this combination and it works fine. I just update webtrees 
from time to time with a new .GED file from Gramps, and I've given 
read-only access to webtrees to all the family (I installed it on my own 
server). If you have somewhere to host it, it's a nice interface, and I 
have explained to them all that I they have new material, please to send 
it to me rather than asking to update the webtrees copy.
