Hallo Nils, The GMT tutorial is a nice intro for plotting things. Sometimes I also look for examples, no code actually, an example I've found: http://geodynamics.usc.edu/~becker/igmt/igmt_tutorial.pdf iGmt may help you also, and try of course Mirone, it's a nice tool.
