gmtspatial: Syntax error: No input specified

Hello, After using gmtspatial I found an issue (e.g. with the attached file, both columns are in km): gmtspatial forgmtspatial.txt -Q gives an answer (area of 254 km2), whereas: cat forgmtspatial.txt | gmtspatial -Q gives an error (gmtspatial: Syntax error: No input specified). Is this the normal behavior? based on the optional arguments (table), it should be possible to pipe the input data as above. Thanks for any hint, Gery PS. OS xubuntu in VB on winXP, GMT5.1 from svn.
