Hello Arlindo, a step-by-step procedure for the installation of gmt5 is given in the link below, I am pretty sure it answers all your questions. http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/projects/gmt/wiki/BuildingGMT Regards, Gabriel Em Quinta-feira, 26 de Junho de 2014 11:52, Arlindo Arriaga <[email protected]> escreveu: Dear all I have been working with GMT-4 (release 4.5.8) for about 1 year. I am neither a system administrator nor a software engineer - and also not a superuser. I worked however as a scientist for more than 20 years at EUMETSAT (www.eumetsat.int), mostly working in prototyping scientific software in support of programs of new instruments or satellites (MSG and EPS/IASI and EPS/MHS) The software packages I have worked with in Portugal since late 2012 (hdf4, hdf5, GMT4, netcdf) were installed by myself on my own work area. The installation of GMT-5 shall be also performed on my work area only. My computer works under Linux Ubuntu 64 bits. The installation of GMT-4 was quite easy, because there was a simple installation form to generate the installation script. Such an installation script also installed the libraries needed for GMT (namely GDAL e netcdf). Without the installation script, I guess the there is a leap in the difficulty/complexity for a successful installation of GMT-5. I am thus asking for your kindness to help me with a list of clearly defined steps to correctly install GMT-5. First of all, I would appreciate to know which ugeneral tilities should be available in the system (ghostscript, etc.) and which particular libraries must I install in my own work area, please? Where are those libraries, which ones may you recommend, please ? Which tests should I perform to be sure those libraries are correctly installed, before going ahead ith the installation of GMT-5 ? After this part is successfully done, then I will be back to you for GMT-5 itself. I thank you for the kindness of your attention and help.
