I started with: nvidia-settings -q GPUs
(actual full host name replaced by xxx.yyy.zzz)
2 GPUs on xxx.yyy.zzz:0
[0] xxx.yyy.zzz:0[gpu:0] (GeForce 7600 GS)
[1] xxx.yyy.zzz:0[gpu:1] (GeForce 7600 GS)
Obviously nvidia-settings -q GPUCoreTemp needs some additional parameter
showing from _which_ GPU temp data would be read; by default it gives
temperature only for the gpu:0
nvidia-settings -q GPUCoreTemp
Attribute 'GPUCoreTemp' (flower.shelter.net:0.0): 53.
'GPUCoreTemp' is an integer attribute.
'GPUCoreTemp' is a read-only attribute.
'GPUCoreTemp' can use the following target types: X Screen, GPU.
I know that's for gpu:0 because currently both cards are in non-SLI mode and
have different load, therefore one of them is slightly more warm than
another :-) Comparing this temperature with both shown in GUI version I can
see which GPU is shown by default.
Unfortunately nvidia-settings --help doesn't seem to explain command syntax
clear enough for me :) and nvidia-settings -q all by default relates only
to gpu:0 .
