sudden problem

I am having a problem that appeared suddenly, or at least I did not notice it 
for several hours. As far as I know nothing at all has changed. 

gkrellkam no longer works, it gives the following error which confuses me 
since I cannot find out what this specific error number means:

GKrellKam warning:
Error: wget gave bad code or script died. code 32512

i am using the following versions:

gkrellkam v 2.0.0
gkrellm 2.2.10

one window reads weather radar images and the other one rotates simple pics of 
my dogs. these have always worked, and suddenly neither work.

i ran wget manually against the urls in the first list and it retrieves radar 
images fine. i use xv for display and it shows them fine. same with the 
static pics of my dogs.

i am really confused here. any guidance would be appreciated.

there have been no update installations of anything in the past week yet this 
dies out today.
