i monitor 15 servers remotely using gkrellm.. it is simplest with a static ip
on the laptop, but since it is mobile you will just have to trust opening the
remote port either to the world or to a specific ip block if you are always
assigned one within the same block.

the servers run gkrellmd and gkrellm on the monitoring workstation. each
server monitor has its own unique configuration so it is quite nice.

i am not sure of direct email support but there is a way to do this in
gkrellm. the alerts button for each cpu core. in the alert command put the
name of a script to run and in that script use the mail/mailx utility to send
an email. it won't tell you the temp but you know the temp has exceeded your
threshold if you get a notice. if cooling is proper, i have found the temps
not to vary much at all to the point over several years i have never had one
get even within 10C of the max operating limit of the chip (on our opterons
it is 67c) our temps run between 45 and 52c with full load and around 38c
light load.
