Could your KDE session manager be starting an extra gkrellm? I would check to see what it is starting at startup. I recall that a while back some others were having this problem and it seemed to have to do with the KDE session manager seeing multiple gkrellm threads and then setting up to start multiple gkrellms at startup. Anyway, there is an option in the gkrellm config General->Options "Allow multiple instances" which should prevent this behavior as long as the option is not checked. If yours is checked, uncheck it.
