i got rid of all the calls to gkrellm2 just to keep things 'proper'. what i find is that another copy of gkrellm , and only my system monitor one not the ones for the remote servers, starts and lays in front of the original copy. this 2nd copy does not access the sensors, or cannot share them or something. when i see temps and fans not updating i do a process list i see both copies. i delete the process of the newer copy and the first one continues on like it never was stopped which it may never have been. this behavior only started when i upgraded the entire system and switched from kde3.5 to kde4.3.3. in an effort to pin this behavior down, i turned off all desktop antics completely, and set the pager so it does nothing when selected other than change desktops. i am unsure when or how this 2nd copy gets started. any suggestions? i am running gentoo for the base o/s. the kernel is 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 and i compiled kde-meta which makes every option available in portage for it. i did have a few upgrade errors. the following packages did not get installed either due to errors, or the fact i did not want them: #emerge wanted to extract a tar pkg inside the bin file that did not exist #expect it will be fixed in the near future. previous version works fine. dev-java/sun-java3d-bin-1.3.2-r1 #io compress failed for file collisions with existing files yet i have never installed the pkg before perl-core/IO-Compress-2.021 #java pkgs would not install due to dependency on new java dev-java/ant-core-1.7.1-r4 dev-java/lucene-analyzers-2.3.2 dev-java/ant-nodeps-1.7.1 dev-java/junit-3.8.2-r1 dev-java/javacc-4.0-r4 dev-java/lucene-2.3.2 #openfire failed due to a java error. existing version works well enough. net-im/openfire-3.6.4 net-libs/libvncserver-0.9.1 #krfb is a vncserver - dont want it. kde-base/krfb-4.3.3 #dont need .. dont have a palm pilot kde-base/kpilot-4.3.3 doubt any of the above affect gkrellm. i have the following plugins installed: gkrellmitime gkrellkam gkrellmwho2 volume plugin gkrellshoot gkrellmlaunch all of the plugins work perfectly. i am at a loss what could possibly launch a 2nd copy of gkrellm seemingly randomly and only affect my local system monitor and not affect the remote monitors. maybe i should try using gkrellmd and turn it into a 'remote' monitor? -- Rio ______________________________________________ Gkrellm mailing list [email protected] Read archives-join-leave-set RSS feed: http://archive.lists.netservicesgroup.com This service is provided by The Network Services Group: http://www.netservicesgroup.com
