What happens if you use the "sensors" command from lm-sensors or some other way of retrieving the card's temperature? Does the same thing happen? Either way looks like a bug in the nVidia driver - probably the only solution is to roll back until they release a new version with a fix. You can also report the bug to nVidia I think. Cheers, Adam.
