I'd be interested to know why exactly you are doing this, what tasks you are trying to achieve, as a better solution or different approach to the problem may present itself if we better understood your overall goals. I know I played around with using GQView for showing all kinds of files, not just ordinary images and even within images I would need seperate editors for things like Postscript or SVG compared to PNG or JPEG.
