I have looked at this, and nothing I tried seems to work - short of displaying
the menu within the main window - the accelerators simply do not work unless the
menu bar has been shown.

If you don't mind a menu bar then this patch will fix the bug:

   http://gqview.sourceforge.net/patches/gqview-1.5.2-accel-key-hack.patch

If anyone manages to get the keyboard shortcuts working without showing the menu
bar I would be happy to include the fix into GQview (this is a call for help).

Otherwise, this bug looks like it will remain until GQview converts to using the
new GTK 2.4 GtkActionGroups for menus, The current GQview menu bar is created
with a GtkItemFactory, which now seems to be deprecated in 2.4 :/

I have no idea when GQview will begin to require at least GTK 2.4 so that it can
be converted to the new menu construction methods, but probably around the time
I upgrade to GTK 2.4 - development of GQview is still with GTK 2.2.4

Greetings,
John
