Another issue with the slide show is that the
interval timer does not quite work right.

The slide show should select the second image
only after the first one has been fully rendered.
Right now, on my machine, the next image starts
being rendered exactly (period) seconds after the
first image starts being rendered... irrespective
of whether gqview has finished rendering 
the first image or not.

So the suggestion is to start the rendering of the
second image (period) seconds after the first image
has been completely rendered.

Would this be possible?
