command-line thumbnail management

Is there any way to do thumbnail management via command-line (for use in
cron)? I do a lot of maintenance of my images outside gqview which
leaves the cache with orphans and I have to rebuild the thumbnails
manually (this can be painfully slow if I'm loading 100 or more 20+ MB
tif images. I'd like to just run cron once a week to keep things in line.

Thanks,
