stat64() calls of files in underlaying directories?

Hi,

I don't know if I configged gqview wrong or if it's supposed to work
like this, but I find it very annoying. I'm running 2.0.0 from debian
unstable.
What happens is this:
My directory structure is as follows:
I have mounted via nfs my pictures directory on my workstation
(noatime). There are about 15.000 pictures in there of all kinds of
stuff, too lazy to sort them :) Below that are holiday/2004,
holiday/2005 etc.
What happens is if I'm looking at /pictures/holiday/2004 and switch
to /pictures/holiday/2005 gqview starts doing stat64() calls (confirmed
with strace -p on the process) on all files in /pictures. That takes
more than a minute and is very annoying to say the least and happens on
every directory switch.
Any idea why gqview is doing this? More information available on
