Hi, without the shutdown of the mailing lists at gnome.org I wouldn't have bothered to take a look at mc again. I'm a command line user, I just replaced ls by an alias with lsd and use a few other aliases to reduce typing. However, to compare and edit files I used to use Meld. Due to the latest GTK oddities, such as the ambiguous cave paintings that replace unambiguous single words, the previously good user interface of Meld became a PITA. Right now I noticed I can switch between command line and mc by Ctrl+O and Ctrl+X (probably for execute) followed by Ctrl+D (likely for diff) I get a replacement for Meld, that still does use unambiguous single words, instead of ambiguous cave paintings. I'm a dyslexic, but not overwhelmed by single words, while misleading pictograms are probably an annoyance for everybody using a computer to get work done. I'm a new mc user. I will still use command line for most tasks, but it's seemingly at least a very good replacement for Meld. I got rid of the GTK annoyances and can use it without X, too. Just the enforced skin when using it outside of a X session is harsh. Regards, Ralf -- mc mailing list [email protected] https://lists.midnight-commander.org/mailman/listinfo/mc
