mc mouse events don't work with foot terminal

I wanted to try out mc (4.8.30), but the mouse doesn't seem to work with
my foot terminal. When I click, I see the mouse coordinates printed into
the command prompt at the bottom. For example:

;1M;1m (for mouse down/up)

If I use TERM=xterm-color mc, the mouse works but some of the colors
aren't visible. I'm using GNU Guix and the sway compositor (wayland).

Does anyone have any recommendations?
